Analyzed Data Includes:

  • Right/left force distribution
  • Anterior/posterior force distribution
  • Center of Pressure
  • Feet angle
  • Step length
  • Step time
  • Stair usage – ascend/descend height and time
  • Slope usage – ascend/descend degree and time
  • Parallel bars – 3 meter walk-time

Diagnosis

DST Triple Sense system is the only mechanism which enables gait analysis and diagnosis of movement impairments in all three areas: parallel bars, stairs, and slope. The system provides data regarding uneven weight distribution, step length and time, center of pressure , weight distribution of the foot, and more. The obtained information will help you identify the root cause of patient’s impairment, create an accurate treatment plan, keep track of a patient’s progress, and reveal the risk factors inherent in dangerous situations, such as falls. The bottom line is simple –optimal treatment efficiency, maximum rehabilitation potential, and reduction of rehab costs and duration.

Treatment

Physiotherapists must multi-task, keeping patients safe and motivated while maintaining correct posture, motion and more. The DST Triple Sense puts an end to this struggle by employing visual and auditory biofeedback to help patients regain control and stay motivated during the exercise. Physiotherapists can now guide and secure their patients throughout the course of the exercise without having to worry about its quality or missing compensations.

The benefits of real-time gait biofeedback in rehabilitation has already been proven to encourage significant and clinically relevant improvements. The DST Triple Sense takes these benefits to the next level by providing real-time feedback on patient’s performance in all three functionalities: stairs, slope, and parallel bars.

LifeWorks Rehab at Medical Facilities of America prides itself on providing world-class rehabilitation with the latest advancements in therapy equipment to give patients the best tools and skills to get them back home functional, safe, and independent. As Vice President of Rehab Services, I remain alert to changes in rehab technology and assess new rehab equipment for its ability to assist our therapists in their mission to provide superior rehabilitation interventions. Any piece of rehab equipment utilized in our rehab gyms needs to assist our therapists in driving positive outcomes, be user friendly, and be cost effective. We previewed the Dynamic Stair Trainer (DST) in 2008 and were immediately impressed. Over the years we have expanded our use of the DST to where it is now in almost every therapy gym in our company. The ability to replicate the stairs/curbs a patient needs to negotiate in their home/community is a huge benefit to their successful rehabilitation. Nearly every patient admitted to our center for short term rehabilitation utilizes the DST multiple times as part of their rehabilitation process. The DST also allows us to initiate stair training earlier in the rehab progress and give our patients incremental “wins” as they successfully advance to negotiating stairs of greater and greater height. It also very beneficial to be able to document these incremental gains for reimbursement and skilled justification purposes. Another benefit of the Dynamic Stair Trainer is the savings in floor space. By being able to replace an pair of antiquated non-adjustable wooden stairs and unimpressive parallel bars with a single state of the art piece of equipment, valuable floor space can be reclaimed to allow for additional technologies to be incorporated into the rehab gym. Patients, visitors, and referral sources are always impressed when they see the Dynamic Stair Trainer in action. The DST is extremely user friendly with intuitive height and rail adjustments that require very little staff training to utilize. Your cleaning staff will also appreciate the ease at which the DST can be maneuvered to provide deep cleaning. We look forward to our continued use of the DST as an integral part of our rehabilitation programs. It is an investment that we are glad we made for the benefit of our patients and families.

Initially, we thought DST Pro can be used as a replacement to our Parallel Bar, which we had for over 20 years, but it’s not! The Dynamic Stairs Trainer (DST) Pro looks simple, yet it is versatile and sophisticated. It provides our clients with the possibilities to train/practice in three different areas: Parallel bar: walking on flat surface, Stairs & Ramp. DST Pro’s wired remote, incremental increase or decrease of the stairs’ height and the ramp inclination angle has opened many possibilities for our therapist to prepare/train our clients in their daily functional tasks. As we are moving towards an evidence-based practice and outcome focus approach, DST Triple Pro’s ability to capture every session data, plot the information on a graph and track the progress has enhanced our data-driven approach and service delivery for the betterment of our clients, reduce the therapist workload and improved their efficiency. This multi-functional capability makes it an essential equipment in every rehabilitation gym/centers. After sale-service is one of the best: Software team is able to work remotely and make necessary amendments requested to software, so that it is customized to our department needs & data collection.

I wish to note the excellent experience we have gained with the team Dynamic Stair Trainer. This equipment has been used by our therapists to treat patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions, giving us the opportunity to measure the functional progress of our patients. Similarly, it has provided patients with an opportunity to objectively see their progress. For this reason I highly recommend this equipment for the rehabilitative treatment of patients.

The apparatus has been in daily use at the Herzog Hospital Institute of Physiotherapy for the past eighteen months and it is hard for us today to understand how we ever managed without it. The ability to adjust the steps and change their height enables step practice for patients whose range of movement and muscle strength are not yet sufficient to manage the regular step height (16.5 cm). It is possible to make progress with each patient on an individual basis, according to his ability. The ability to rescue a patient easily in the event that he gets "stuck" on the top step means that we can bring him down quickly and in safety. The adjustable handrails enable maximum tailoring to the needs of each patient. The additional handrails installed in May do indeed make it possible to use the steps in part as an inclined walking surface, simulating everyday functioning outside the house. All adjustments are user-friendly, for both patient and therapist (and it is known that if adjustment is too complicated the therapists manage without). My colleagues, as well as the patients, like the "high-tech" appearance of the steps, which project an active and dynamic image, with an excellent finish that is uncompromising with regard to the safety of the user. The apparatus has broken a record in our department: eighteen months of intensive use and not a single problem!
