Features
Povidone-Iodine is an iodophore in which Iodine is bound to the carrier molecule,Povidone. The complex, Povidone-Iodine, slowly liberates inorganic Iodine when in contact with the skin and mucous membranes. Only a small amount of Iodine is released at any one time, giving Povidone-Iodine a lower irritant potential, and longer duration of microbiocidal action than conventional Iodine solutions.
Povidone-Iodine has the antimicrobial spectrum of Iodine. It has broad-spectrum activity; including bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa cysts and spores.
When used as directed, Povidone-Iodine scrub has an antibacterial effect on normal skin flora, disturbing them and suspending them in a soap/water mixture, which allows them to be rinsed away.
Indications:
For preoperative and postoperative scrubbing of skin by hospital operating personnel; for preoperative use on patients as an antiseptic cleanser or for general use as an antiseptic skin cleanser in the surgery.
