Ankle Sprains are the most common sporting injury and are the easiest, but often the worst, rehabilitated.
Initial diagnosis and evaluation is imperative, therfore seeing your health professional is very important post injury.
Treatment is aimed initially at reducing the inflammation and pain with icing, rest and compression. Next stage is rehabilitation which includes strengthening and balance (proprioception) exercises to improve ankle stability. This is the easiest and best way to prevent re-injury, but is often missed.
Anyone playing a sport where there is a risk of ankle injury should be doing balancing (prorioception) exercises regularly.
