Achilles Tendon Pathology
Achilles Tendon pathology is characterised by pain on the Achilles Tendon at the back of the heel and is typically an overuse injury. Pain is present with a squeeze of the achilles tendon about an inch above the heel, along with potential swelling, redness and heat over the area. It is typically worse first thing in the morning with the first few steps.
Treatment involves icing, mobilising tight structures such as the calf, off loading the achilles, keeping it on stretch over night and slowly re-strengthening the achilles tendon with a graduated exercise program. Orthotics may be required.
It is well worth contacting your health professional for a program, however below you will find a number of commonly used products to help you manage the problem.
